MADISON – Today, the State Assembly passed AJR 91 which congratulates the City of Madison on achieving Platinum status as a bicycle friendly community by the league of American Bicyclists. Madison is now one of only five cities in the United States to obtain platinum status, which is the highest rank achieved by any American city. The Resolution was authored by Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison), along with Representatives Terese Berceau, Rob Kahl, Melissa Sargent, and Chris Taylor, all of whom represent portions of the City of Madison in the State Assembly.

“Achieving Platinum status as a Bicycle Friendly Community shows Madison’s commitment to making Madison the best place to bicycle that it can possibly be,” said Representative Lisa Subeck. “This is an accomplishment deserving of congratulations from the State Assembly.”

In 2006, after receiving gold status as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, the City of Madison and local bike enthusiasts began working to improve Madison’s bicycle infrastructure on a mission to achieve platinum status. Madison achieved this honor in recognition of the city’s impressive bike paths and bike lanes, strong its partnerships with Trek and B-Cycle, its many cycling amenities, and the welcoming nature of Wisconsin’s capital city to cyclists.

“Thank you to our city leaders, staff, and residents for their tremendous commitment to making Madison a bicycle friendly community for those who commute by bicycle as well as for recreational bicyclists, and congratulations on achieving platinum status by the League of American Bicyclists,” said Rep. Subeck.
