Representative Subeck Applauds Governor Evers’s $110 Million Public Schools Investment

MADISON -- Today, Governor Tony Evers announced an investment of $110 million of federal coronavirus relief funds for Wisconsin's public schools. The funds come with flexibility allowing school districts to direct their share in a variety of ways such as supplies, equipment, additional programming, extracurricular opportunities, hiring more educators and staff, mental health investments, and operational costs. The Madison Metropolitan School District will receive $3,576,156, and the Middleton-Cross Plains and Verona Area School Districts will receive $984,700 and $750,827 respectively. Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement:

"Prioritizing the education of our kids is the best investment we can make for the future of Wisconsin. I applaud Governor Evers's $110 million investment in our students, teachers, and public schools as they continue to navigate and recover from the educational and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite Legislative Republicans' drastic cuts to school funding in the biennial budget, Governor Evers was able to uphold his promise of investing more than $100 million of additional new funding for Wisconsin's schools. I am confident the leadership of our local school districts will use their allocations in ways to meet the diverse needs of our students and schools."
