Representative Lisa Subeck Supports Legislative Black Caucus’s Call for Special Session on Justice Reform

MADISON –Today, Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement regarding the letter Assembly Democrats sent to Governor Evers in support of the Legislative Black Caucus’s request for a special session to enact justice reform legislation:

“I fully support and stand in solidarity with the Legislative Black Caucus in calling for a special session to address long overdue criminal justice reform. The recent wave of demonstrations in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder by police officers illuminates strong community support for needed change.

Confronting the challenges of racial inequity and systemic racism requires bold action by the legislature. Let’s enact legislation to address racial disparities and over-incarceration, to hold police accountable for misconduct, and to make meaningful investments in addressing racial inequity in our communities. Assembly Democrats have already introduced proposals to begin addressing these issues, and these bills should be considered in a special session of the legislature.

It is our obligation to act upon the Legislative Black Caucus’s recommendations, and I am grateful for their leadership during this crucial moment in history.”
