Representative Lisa Subeck Calls on Governor to Veto GOP Power Grab Legislation

December 14, 2018

MADISON – Today, Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement regarding expected action this afternoon by the Governor on SB 883, SB 884, and SB 886, a Republican power grab that interferes with the ability of the newly elected Democratic administration to move Wisconsin forward.

“What has happened in the Capitol leading up to this ‘lame duck’ power grab by Republicans is an absolute disgrace to our democracy.  The people of Wisconsin made clear on Election Day that they want change when they chose new leaders and a new direction by electing Democrats to every statewide office.

Today, Governor Walker has the opportunity to stop this naked power grab by Republicans in the Legislature.  If he signs any portion of these bills into law, the Governor will ignore the thousands of Wisconsinites who have spoken out against this power grab and many more who made their intentions clear on Election Day.

Republican leadership in the Legislature is putting their own political ambition ahead of the will of the voters. Governor Walker can end his time in office on a high note by vetoing this power grab, or he can go down in history as a leader who puts politics and partisanship ahead of people.”
