Rep. Subeck Calls on U.S. Supreme Court to Trust Experts, allow Safe and Legal Access to Medication Abortion

MADISON – Today, the United States Supreme Court announced it would hear a Biden Administration appeal in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, the ongoing federal lawsuit over the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone, the drug most commonly used in medication abortions. A recent Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling sought to curtail access to the drug, which has been proven safe and effective by extensive data over for more than 20 years.

Representative Lisa Subeck released the following statement:

“Attempts to limit safe, legal access to medication abortion are rooted in extreme political ideology and ignore decades of scientific evidence that mifepristone is safe and effective. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling would make it harder for patients to access necessary reproductive healthcare.

Thank you to the Biden Administration for appealing this decision, I am hopeful that the Supreme Court will ensure that patients have the freedom to choose the best health care option for themselves.”

Rep. Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
