“Buy Wisconsin” Legislation Sets Goals for Local Purchasing

MADISON – Today, Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) introduced “Buy Wisconsin” legislation to increase local purchasing of materials and services from companies based in Wisconsin by state and local governments.

The legislation would require the Wisconsin Department of Administration to ensure that at least 20% of all purchases by state agencies be procured from Wisconsin-based companies. Additionally, the bill sets an optional goal for local government entities that at least 20% of purchases be from Wisconsin companies, and provide publicly available data on the entity’s progress towards this goal.

“‘Buy Wisconsin’ is an ambitious and achievable step forward in supporting working Wisconsinites and our local small businesses,” said Rep. Subeck. “When our government buys local, we can keep our tax dollars right here in Wisconsin while ensuring we get the highest quality services available.”

Rep. Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
