State Debate: Blogger warns about taking a health care 'victory lap'; another asks if Wisconsin sorry it sent Ron Johnson back?

By The Cap Times

Don't go running a victory lap over health care just yet, warns Dominique Paul Noth on his blog, Dom's Domain. Despite the GOP defeats, they aren't done yet, he says, noting that Donald Trump himself has been and will continue to be working to sabotage Obamacare.

Jim Pratt, a Jefferson business owner who has been featured on ads favoring a new U.S. business tax code, explains in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel column that he isn't being partisan in advocating for tax reform, but is asking for help from what is truly a nonsensical code that needs to be replaced.

In a column that appears on WisOpinion, Stevens Point Democratic state Rep. Katrina Shankland comments on what she calls "the cost of failed leadership." She says nothing says more about a leader's priorities than the state budget — and Scott Walker's three budgets have shown that public education, the state's working people and our infrastructure aren't his.

In another piece on WisOpinion, writer John Frederick Kaufman wonders if the good people of Wisconsin regret sending Ron Johnson back to the U.S. Senate. He accuses Johnson of having no moral qualms, as evidenced by his recent stance on the failed Republican plan to repeal Obamacare.

Meanwhile, business blogger John Torinus posts another plea that the country consider providing Medicare Advantage for all, now that another Republican plan has crashed and burned. That could be done, but without the disruption of the employer-paid health plans that cover most of Americans, he says.

And Political Environment blogger James Rowen adds that like Ron Johnson, Wisconsin's governor, Scott Walker, is still in favor of repealing and replacing Obamacare. Walker's love for Donald Trump is unshakable, Rowen asserts — but not so much for Wisconsin's working poor.

Blogger Jeff Simpson takes what he calls a "deeper dive" into the anthem debate. He posts several comments from outraged Wisconsin Republican politicians and ends with his own take: Let's get aggrieved about real disrespect for the American flag, like cavorting with the Russians to win elections or flying the Confederate flag or praising white supremacists.
