Rep. Katrina Shankland, D-Stevens Point, has announced she will serve on seven legislative committees during the 2015-16 legislative session.

Shankland, who will serve as the assistant minority leader of the state Assembly Democratic Caucus when the new session begins today, will serve as the ranking Democrat on the Assembly Committee on Workforce Development. Shankland also will serve on the committees on Natural Resources and Sporting Heritage, Rules, Organization; the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules; the Joint Legislative Council; and the Joint Committee on Legislative Organization.
Shankland was nominated to the committees by Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca and appointed by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos. She also will continue to serve on the Governor's Council on Domestic Abuse.

"I will use my role on these committees to protect our sporting heritage and our clean air and water, and be a strong voice for clean, open and transparent government," Shankland said in a news release. "With the working families of Wisconsin in mind, I know we will accomplish great things."

Shankland was first elected to represent the 71st Assembly District, which includes Portage County, in 2012.
