Representative Katrina Shankland (Stevens Point) and the One Wisconsin Institute will host a Student Debt Town Hall at UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday, April 22. The event will be a roundtable discussion of student loan debt and potential solutions, and UW-Stevens Point students are invited to come share their stories.

The meeting will also include Scot Ross, Executive Director of the One Wisconsin Institute as well as student loan borrowers and other area legislators.

The meeting is being held from 6:30-8 PM in the Collins Classroom Center, 1801 Fourth Ave., in room 101.

“Over the years, steady cuts to public funding for higher education have led to sky-rocketing tuition and mountains of debt for students and families. We must do more to minimize the burden of student loans, for the benefit of our graduates and Wisconsin’s economy,” Shankland said. “The Student Debt Town Hall will be an open forum for students, alumni, and university faculty and staff to share their student debt stories. I look forward to our discussion on how we can make higher education more affordable and resolve the student loan crisis.”
