Amherst (WAOW) -- The Biadasz family was honored in Madison Tuesday.

The state assembly named the family Hometown Heroes.

Mike Biadasz, an Amherst farmer, died from the fumes in a manure pit in 2016. Since then, his family has worked tirelessly to educate other farmers about the danger of manure pits and to enact change.

State Representative Katrina Shankland nominated the Biadasz family for the award.

"We're trying to do the best we can to help other people out, because if we can avoid anybody else from having the tragedy we endured, we've done our job," said Mike's dad Bob Biadasz.

Bob says he hopes they can continue to make a difference and encourages people to reach out with any ideas to improve farming safety.
