'Meager Crumbs': Democrats Unhappy With Gov. Walker's State of the State Address

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Democrats say Governor Walker could have offered real solutions during Tuesday night's State of the State address.

But Assembly Assistant Minority Leader Katrina Shankland of Stevens Point says the GOP governor laid out "meager crumbs."

She says Walker's plan to end tax deduction limits for student loan interest would only help 6,500 people in each of the next five years -- and with a million student loan borrowers, Shankland says the proposal "doesn't even scratch the surface."

Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca says Walker is trying to avoid an image as a lame duck, and he doesn't believe signs that the governor might seek a third term in 2018.

On Monday, the Walker camp put out a fundraising request to supporters to help eliminate his debt from his failed presidential bid -- and he alluded to a 2018 run by saying "the other side is already gearing up for a bruising battle."
