MADISON – Today Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) announced that she has been named 2019 Legislator of the Year by the Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC). WPC has served as a voice for the pulp and paper industries in Wisconsin for 51 years.

In response, Rep. Shankland released the following statement:

“I am honored to be named Legislator of the Year by the Wisconsin Paper Council, and I deeply appreciate all of the work that they do to advocate for the family-supporting jobs our pulp, paper and forestry industries have provided for generations of Wisconsinites.

“I’m proud of our state’s papermaking heritage, and I am glad to play a leadership role in the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus, supporting this important sector of our economy in the Wisconsin State Legislature. From championing UW-Stevens Point’s paper science department to investing in WIST, I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to protect these important jobs for future generations to come.”

Rep. Shankland is being recognized for her strong continued support for Wisconsin’s pulp, paper and forestry industries, especially as evidenced by her efforts as Assembly Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus and as an advocate for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Paper Science and Chemical Engineering Program and the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology.
