"The recommendations we are announcing today represent a $10 million investment in water quality," chair of the Water Quality task force, Representative Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville) said. "We've done our best to create a package of comprehensive bills...but it's important to recognize right now the conversation does not stop here," vice chair, Representative Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) added. The task force proposed 13 bills that include hiring additional county conservation officers, fund the Center for Watershed Science and Education, add to the contaminated wells replacement program while making nitrate contaminated wells a priority, expand the "clean sweep" program to collect and dispose fire fighting foam with PFAS, and hire a director of a new Office of Water Policy.
