Chief Chad Kanable Presented with the 51st Assembly District’s First Responder Award

MADISON – Rep. Todd Novak (Dodgeville) was honored to present Chad Kanable, Avoca Chief of Police, with the 51st Assembly District’s 2023-25 First Responder Award on Tuesday, October 17th.   Every session, the State Assembly recognizes a first responder from each assembly district.

Chief Kanable was nominated by people in his community for responding to a call outside his jurisdiction for a patient suffering from an arterial bleeding injury. He demonstrated his ability and preparedness to assess the situation by providing life-saving medical service and helped save the patient's life. As a chief, Chad and his team have responded to various service calls day and night that have gone above and beyond.

Chief Kanable has been a dedicated community member by serving with the Richland Fire Department and Viola Fire Department and is a past member of the Richland County EMS. Chad has served in law enforcement for the past 30 years, most recently as the Chief of Police for Avoca.

“As an elected official, it’s an honor to recognize individuals from my district, like Chad who exemplify the virtues of service. It was a privilege to present Chief Kanable with the First Responder Award at the Capitol this week,” said Novak. “Chad has an exceptional dedication, bravery, and commitment to serving our community. Chief Kanable has consistently demonstrated extraordinary courage and resourcefulness in high-pressure situations.”

“When reviewing the nominations for the First Responder Award, there were many worthy candidates. However, Chief Kanable’s nomination detailing his many contributions to the community over the years was truly impressive and go well above the call to duty,” said Novak. “I want to thank Chad for his work to make our community a safer and better place to live.”

Chief Kanable joins Al Michek Highland EMT and Ron Weigel of Shullsburg EMT, who have received the first responder award for the 51st Assembly District in prior sessions.
