Wisconsin Assembly Honors Patrick Shore of Wonewoc as Hometown Hero

MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly honored Patrick Shore of Wonewoc as a Hometown Hero. Mr. Shore was nominated by Rep. Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc) for his selfless and heroic actions that saved a neighbor’s life.

Mr. Shore made local news in January of this year after he heard a cry for help when delivering a package and found an elderly woman who had fallen in a nearby creek. She had been laying on the ground, cold and wet, calling for help for over forty five minutes. Since her legs had gone numb from the cold, he picked her up, carried her to her home and called for emergency medical services.

This isn’t the first time Mr. Shore has gone above and beyond to help a neighbor.

In January of 2002, Mr. Shore was delivering packages when he noticed an elderly man trapped in an overturned vehicle. He stopped at a nearby home to call for help and returned to the scene to check on the driver. Upon seeing that the vehicle was leaking gas, Mr. Shore risked his personal safety to pull the injured man free through a broken window.

In December of 2021, Mr. Shore detected the presence of a significant gas leak while delivering a package to a home and immediately alerted emergency services. Construction was in progress for a new cement pad for a garage and a snow plow had punctured the gas line. Since no one had been home at the time, the gas had built up to the point where the owner would have been in danger upon their return.

“We are extremely proud of our driver Pat Shore. His quick actions and awareness that ultimately saved a fellow resident demonstrate what we already know: UPSers do more than just work in the community; they are part of it. Living the values like those illustrated by Patrick is just one of the ways UPS and UPSers deliver what matters,” said Jonathan Chowansky, Director of State Public Affairs at UPS.

“Patrick has been a delivery driver for UPS for 40 years- his dedication to our communities shows every day, but he’s also never hesitated to go above and beyond the call of duty. Patrick is the perfect example of a hometown hero, and very deserving of this recognition,” said Rep. Kurtz.
