Rep. Tony Kurtz’s Statement on Governor Evers Proposed Budget

MADISON –Rep. Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc) issued the following statement after Governor Tony Evers delivered his budget address:

“Tonight, Governor Evers proposed budget includes major spending increases across the board and brings back his liberal wish list of policy items, many of which the legislature has rejected in the last two budgets. The administration has spent months assembling another budget that the Legislature will once again have to unravel and rewrite.

“Some of the items Governor Evers proposed tonight include the bills that the Legislative Council Study Committee on Wisconsin National Guard Sexual Misconduct Procedures, which I chaired, spent months working on. While I appreciate the nod of support, I’m disappointed the Governor felt the need to take the credit for the study committee’s hard work.

“There is a lot of room to improve this budget, and I’m optimistic that my colleagues and I will spend the next several months listening to the people of Wisconsin and rightsizing various programs, investing in programs that have proven results, and continuing to address those issues our constituents are concerned about.”
