Representative Dallman Helps Secure $1.5 Billion for Transportation

Madison, WI – Representative Alex Dallman (R-Green Lake), and Republican members of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC), voted on Tuesday, June 13th, to invest additional funds into local roads and state highways. The motion, which passed along party lines, invests more than $1.5 billion in new spending in Wisconsin’s transportation budget.

The action taken by JFC is now included in the 2023-2025 biennial budget which will need to be voted on by the legislature and signed by the governor. This investment by JFC Republicans provides more dollars than Governor Evers for local roads and state highways while borrowing less than the governor in his proposal. The Republican budget will commit $750 million to local roads and bridges as well as state highway improvements.

Some of the highlights of the Republican transportation budget include:

  • $31.4 million, or a 2% annual increase, to county and municipalities for General Transportation Aid
  • $100 million to the Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP)
  • $150 million in a new Agriculture Road Improvement Program (ARIP)
  • $125 million in the state highway rehabilitation program

“I have continued to hear from my constituents across the 41st District about how poor our state roads are and how difficult it is for our local communities to keep up with our failing infrastructure,” said Rep. Dallman. “In contrast with Governor Evers’ proposal, I am proud of the action JFC took to invest more money into our state’s infrastructure and actually be serious about fixing our roads.”
