Your Cup of Joe

Hello and welcome back to my bi-weekly newsletter! It has been a busy two weeks, and I have a lot to update you on.

This week, I hosted two town hall meetings. Town halls are a great way for me to receive feedback from the Sheboygan community while also addressing community concerns directly. These meetings help foster collaboration and transparency towards creating a better future for Sheboygan. We had some great conversations around local issues, education, healthcare, and childcare. Thank you to everyone who came out to give me some insight into your thoughts on the issues affecting the Sheboygan area. Keep an eye out for communications from our office for our next set of in-district events. I encourage everyone to attend our town halls as all voices matter and participation helps me know how best to represent you in Madison.

Help me serve you.

On the 13th, the Assembly heard a number of important bills including Assembly Bill 43, which would allow pharmacists to prescribe contraceptives. I am a proud cosponsor of this common sense bill that helps make sure women have easy access to their chosen form of contraception. I was very happy to see the bill pass the assembly with broad bipartisan support, and I hope to continue to see us work together to help bring about the best possible Wisconsin we can.

Childcare is critical for children’s development by providing a safe and encouraging environment and promoting parental employment. Wisconsin is currently facing a childcare crisis, and since 2007, more than half of Wisconsin’s childcare providers have closed. Myself and other Democratic state legislators have introduced a bill that would invest $480 million in the Child Care Counts Program. As Governor Evers stated, this is the “Year of the Kid.” This investment is not only vital for the future outlook for the children of Wisconsin but also looks to support long-term financial stability by helping parents to be more active in the workforce, overall supporting the needs of families in the state. I hope we can see this critical investment supported on both sides of the aisle.

That’s all for now! Please reach out to my office if we can ever help you in any way. I will be in touch again soon.

Yours in service,

Joe Sheehan
