Forward Fridays

Hello!

Welcome to my latest e-update! Here are highlights from the past week as your State Representative.

As always, feel free to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns you have.

Forward together!

Medicaid Expansion Legislation
Gov Evers MedEx Press Event 8-5-19.jpg

Governor Evers was in our district on Monday to announce the fight for Medicaid Expansion has been re-launched. Rep. Daniel Riemer and Sen. Jon Erpenbach introduced the bill at the press conference, and I am a co-author.

Expanding Medicaid is incredibly popular on both sides of the aisle (70% of Wisconsinites support it), and, without expansion, we will continue to send $115,000 an hour (an hour!) of taxpayer dollars to other states without seeing any return for Wisconsin.

Furthermore, Medicaid Expansion is estimated to cause a 19% DROP in premiums on the private exchange -- that sounds like a reasonable way to support SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS struggling to afford health care right now, doesn't it?

It's past time to #JustSayYes to expanding Medicaid in Wisconsin! Speaker Vos and Leader Fitzgerald need to call a vote and let their members represent their constituents on the floor of the State Assembly! The will of the people is the law of the land- let's get it done for Wisconsin!

Words Matter

What are we going to do about gun violence?

Governor Evers said in the press conference on Monday that we will look at everything we can do to make sure the people of Wisconsin are safe.

That starts with legislation that protects the well-being of Wisconsinites, as well as their rights. ERPO (Extreme Risk Protection Order) legislation is coming, and is determined to protect both due process and the 2nd Amendment. We anticipate introducing this legislation with bipartisan authorship.

Send your concerns our way -- this is an open conversation that my office welcomes.

City 60

Announcing CITY 60! Because partnership with local officials is so very important, I’ve launched a 60 day intensive where I’ll spend time intentionally reaching out to local officials of MKE-Wauwatosa-Brookfield.

These officials are including but not limited to: police, firefighters, mayors, health departments, school boards, city councils, etc.

I’d like to do this every year. While year-round contacts will continue (of course!), when the Speaker cancelled our September floor session, I saw a chance to spend an intensive 60 days August-September in our communities with local officials.

Please feel free to reach out to my office to connect!

Legislative Doors
Legislative Doors Brookfield 8-7-19.jpg

On Wednesday, part of my legislative team (Chief of Staff Maddie, college intern Alyssa, in-district high school intern Dorie) and I knocked doors in Brookfield as part of our constituent outreach.

We heard a lot about health care, a fair amount of concern about the hike in fees for car registration (I voted against that- it’s a tax hidden by the word fee and in a tourism state, it puts the burden solely on WI drivers and that’s not fair— I understand and I hear you). We also heard about the environment, public safety concerns, and OWI specifically. We heard about concerns of lifelong Republicans for responsible gun ownership/gun safety, and questions how we can shift laws to uphold the 2nd amendment and due process but also create a safer world (ERPO legislation is coming and the way it’s written honors both due-process and the 2nd amendment).

When we get out on doors, we have very real conversations. I appreciate that. As always, your input is counted and valued.

 Brookfield Night Out

After we finished up on doors, we made our way to Brookfield Night Out -- there were safety demonstrations and information from Brookfield Police and Fire Departments, a bouncy house, rock climbing wall, food trucks, martial arts demonstrations, and, of course, a photo booth! It was a fun (and informative) community event!
