Federal Eviction Moratorium Extended

The federal eviction moratorium has been extended to October 3, 2021 for places that have substantial to high levels of COVID-19 activity, which includes Waukesha and Milwaukee counties along with a majority of the state. As a reminder, individuals who need assistance with rent, utility, or internet bills can get help from the state. The Wisconsin Emergency Rental Assistance (WERA) program uses federal funding to provide eligible households up to 15 months of assistance with existing or overdue rent and utility bills.

Find more information about WERA HERE.

“Less for Rx” Prescription Drug Cost Legislative Package

On Wednesday, Governor Tony Evers, along with State Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison), introduced the “Less for Rx” legislative package, which is comprised of initiatives proposed by Gov. Evers as part of his 2021-2023 biennial budget earlier this year and builds on the work of the Governor’s Task Force on Reducing Prescription Drug Prices with more than a dozen policy solutions to reduce the price of prescription drugs and ensure Wisconsinites can access and afford the medications they need.

I am a co-author of LRB-3335, along with Rep. Subeck, which would direct the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to develop a pilot project under which a pharmacy benefit manager and pharmaceutical manufacturer are directed to create a value-based, sole-source arrangement to reduce the costs of prescription diabetes medication.

Wisconsin State Fair

The Wisconsin State Fair started yesterday! As a member of the State Fair Board of Directors, I was honored to attend the opening events yesterday at the fair and the Ribbon Cutting for the new Central Mall area.

Head on over to the fair grounds to enjoy cream puffs, ride the Ferris wheel, or see some cute prizewinning animals. The State Fair runs until Sunday, August 15th.

New Grants for Local Tourism Investment Projects

Governor Evers announced this week that he is allocating $10 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to provide grants to local governments and tourism-entity nonprofits for tourism related projects. The funding will go to projects that help promote, maintain, or bolster Wisconsin’s tourism industry and have a capital component. This will be a competitive grant program in which entities will be awarded grants up to $3.5 million.

Local Meetings

This week, I had meetings with the new Wauwatosa Police Chief James MacGillis, Elmbrook Superintendent Mark Hansen, and the new Brookfield Fire Chief Dave Mason and Assistant Fire Chief Brian Gerner.

I appreciate the opportunity to meet with local officials and discuss the topics and issues that are important to residents of the 14th Assembly District!

 COVID-19 Vaccine Update

As of August 6th, 5,875,293 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Wisconsin and 52.5% of Wisconsin residents have received at least one dose, with 49.6% fully vaccinated.

If you have not yet been vaccinated, now is a critical time to get your vaccine. The vaccine protects individuals and communities from getting seriously ill or dying of COVID-19, including the variants. Currently, Wisconsin is seeing a rise in cases as the Delta variant spreads among the unvaccinated. The Delta variant spreads more easily and can cause more severe illness. Find more information of COVID-19 variants HERE.
