Forward Fridays
Hello!
Welcome to my latest e-update! Here are highlights from the past week as your State Representative.
As always, feel free to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns you have.
Forward together!
Wauwatosa Legislative Breakfast
I enjoyed my morning yesterday at the Wauwatosa Health Dept Legislative Breakfast with Senator Baldwin’s office (Senator Ron Johnson’s office didn’t attend), State Senator Kooyenga, State Rep. Hutton and the Health Dept. I hope we were helpful with what’s happening at the state level, and I hope we were also good listeners and are able to take back to Madison and flesh out the concerns we heard in the room today regarding the issues affecting the health of Wauwatosans. We were presented with the most recent Health Department survey on the health of our residents, and corresponding solutions proposed.
Welcome to two of our new high school interns from Brookfield East, Shagun and Zach! They used one of their last days of summer break to join me at the Wauwatosa Health Department legislative breakfast. We continue to build our High School Delegation because the voices of our youth are valuable to my office, and the experience they can gain will go onto to further build this state and country we all so dearly love.
Waukesha Drug Free Communities Coalition
I was honored join Waukesha County Drug Free Communities Coalition and the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors for a presentation this week about protecting the youth in our community - one of the most impacted populations by substance use and behavioral health issues today.
The event included educational presentations from local prevention leaders including:
• Melissa Minkley, Executive Director for Healing Hearts of Waukesha County • Jody Ebbinger-Bentley, AODA Coordinator and Social Worker for City of Waukesha School District • Testimony from local youth • Adam Kindred, Director of Prevention Programs for Elevate
Looking forward to what's next for City 60!
Governor Evers' Executive Orders
In the past few weeks, Governor Evers has signed Executive Orders that are extremely important to our state. These include:
Assembly Democrats Podcast
Did you know that we have a podcast? Listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts! The 6th episode is available now!
They're short, sweet, and keep you up to date on the basic happenings in the Capitol. And, if you ever wondered which State Representatives have a surprising affinity for Taylor Swift, well, now you know!
Adoption Task Force
The final public hearing for the Adoption Task Force was yesterday in Richland Center.
Our last meeting will wrap up in Madison on September 4th at 1pm. This meeting will not include public testimony, but will be a discussion between the Task Force members and the Department of Children and Families about legislative solutions that will be introduced by the task force.
Milwaukee Meetings
Our Friday meetings are generally 90% focused and very serious, and at the end conversation about each others lives and getting to know each other better (bonus points if a Dad brings a baby— no baby this week). Pictured here Rep. Crowley and I chatting casually after a very interesting meeting about how we can better serve care workers, care givers, and those who need in-home care throughout their lives. Here’s wishing you a Happy Friday from our corner of The Milwaukee Delegation. And, more to come on this important topic!
Nominate "First Responder of the Year"!
Is there a first responder in your life you'd like to nominate for "First Responder of the Year"? We are accepting nominations until next Friday!
Fill out THIS FORM to nominate a first responder in your city or county for consideration as the First Responder of the Year for the 14th Assembly district (Wauwatosa-Brookfield-Milwaukee).
First responders include police and sheriff officers, fire fighters, and EMS personnel (paramedics, EMTs, volunteer first responders).
You can nominate someone for a variety of reasons including a specific heroic action, a significant professional achievement, their body of work over time, or their length of service. The winner will be invited to Madison in October to participate in a Hometown Hero ceremony.
Nominations are due by mail or email by Friday, September 6th!
Back to School
I hope everyone has a relaxing and fun Labor Day weekend, and as we head back into the school year - good luck and enjoy!
Speaking of schools... the SCHOOLS Acts (LRB 3539 & LRB 3566) are bipartisan bills that seek to reduce lead exposure to children across this state. I am a co-sponsor of both bills, and I look forward to these bills moving through the legislative process.
Looking Forward
We will be hosting some town halls and more in-district office hours in September - stay tuned for dates!
Feel free to email or call my office with any questions or concerns, or meet with me at one of my in-district office hours or listening sessions.
Forward together,
Rep. Robyn Vining
