Welcome to my latest e-update. Here is a summary from the past week as your State Representative.

Child Tax Credit

Yesterday, July 15th, payments for the Child Tax Credit in President Biden’s American Rescue Plan began distribution. Parents will receive monthly payments of up to $250 per child between the ages of 6-17 or up to $300 per child under the age of 6 through December 2021. The Child Tax Credit will reach 1,858,000 people in 778,000 Wisconsin households, which will reduce poverty and help Wisconsin families.

Governor Evers Announces Funding for Workforce Needs

Governor Evers announced this week that he is investing $130 million of federal funds into solutions to help address the state’s post-pandemic workforce needs. Under the plans, funds will be invested into Wisconsin’s workforce across three programs. The resources will support both connecting unemployed or underemployed workers with new opportunities while also incentivizing innovative solutions to regional workforce challenges that have been exacerbated by the pandemic. Programs announced today include:

$100 million Workforce Innovation grant program to encourage regions and communities to develop leading-edge, long-term solutions to the workforce challenges the state faces in the wake of COVID-19;
$20 million toward the Worker Advancement Initiative, which will offer subsidized employment and skills training opportunities with local employers to unemployed individuals; and
$10 million for a Worker Connection Program which will provide workforce career coaches who will connect with individuals attempting to reengage in the workforce post-pandemic.

Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum

The Milwaukee Delegation visited the Wisconsin Black Historical Society last Friday (we hear Senator Baldwin was there the day before!). I highly recommend a visit (it’s about 7 minutes from East Tosa), if you haven’t been there before. If you have been there, tell me what you appreciated about your experience! And— stay tuned because I’m hoping to take a “Town Hall on Tour” in September so we can experience the museum as a group— of all ages! Look for details as we approach September.

GO BUCKS!

This week the Milwaukee Bucks played games 3 and 4 of the NBA finals in Milwaukee, which is the first time a NBA finals game has been in our city since 1974. Congratulations to the Bucks on their wins this week in the NBA finals! I wish them the best of luck for game 5 on Saturday. It is great to see so many people enjoy our beautiful city as they visit for the finals. Bucks in 6!

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

As of July 16th, 5,726,940 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Wisconsin and 51% of Wisconsin residents have received at least one dose, with 48.6% fully vaccinated.
