Spring Newsletter - Legislative Report
A little background on the legislative report newsletter that started arriving at homes in Brookfield, Wauwatosa, and Milwaukee today:
1. We submitted this before COVID-19 spread in Wisconsin. Each legislator sends out a newsletter every legislative cycle (every two years). We drew numbers last fall for which date our newsletter would be sent out. The date of my newsletter report mailing was determined in the fall.
We were able to add a graphic on the front that explains it was written prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we were not able to change the entire report.
2. The survey allows you to fill it out on paper or online. The online link can be found HERE. You will be required to fill out your address. We collect responses from our constituents.
3. Wondering why you received this mailing if you don't like in our district? Good question- the least expensive bill to the tax-payer is to send by mail route, even though mail route lines aren't the same as Assembly district lines.
So, in the end, we sent more reports than there are houses in the district, but spent less money than if we had mailed directly to each house.
NOTE: every legislator is given the same budget for the 2 year cycle. I have prioritized constituent services with our district budget, so it was important to me that every home in our district received a copy of the newsletter.
State Legislation
We are hoping we can agree on bipartisan COVID-19 legislation soon. We are told that the Speaker has requested one omnibus bill, and that Republican leadership will call a vote soon. We understand the urgency in voting on various items related to unemployment, federal dollars, state taxes, local property taxes, among others.
We will keep you updated.
50 Piece Rule
As of now, the 50 piece rule is still in effect starting on April 15th. We will keep you updated. If the legislature does not act and pass legislation before April 15th to change the rule, I will no longer be able to send emails directly. I will continue post them as a link to our website and social media.
This is also why the legislative report was sent out this week - we had to send it prior to April 15th as well.
