Forward Fridays
Dear ,
Welcome to my first E-Update!
I’ve had a busy time in my first two months as a State Representative, writing and voting on legislation, attending committee meetings, and most importantly, meeting my constituents.
For my inaugural E-Update, I wanted to outline a "Day in the Life" of a representative, based on my own experience.
As always, feel free to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns you have.
Forward together!
A Day in the Life
Really, an average day for me doesn’t exist. Every day is different. So, I’ll tell you about one particular day:
My morning started off with preparing for my meetings of the day, with a coffee and bagel in my hands and notes on my lap. Usually I opt for oatmeal, but today was a busy day and bagels are quicker.
My first meeting that day was with Governor Evers, to talk about the important work he and I are both doing to make Wisconsin work for everyone.
This included, but was not limited to: promoting practices of good government, ensuring the health and wellness of children & families, and supporting small business & job development efforts. These are the three main “buckets” I place my work in the legislature in.
Next I had a meeting focused on an initiative supporting small businesses in Wisconsin. Our state government needs to put the tools in place to help our small businesses succeed and provide a central resource to foster small business growth. I'm excited for this project to move forward!
A constituent came to drop off a piece of art of the County Grounds she had painted, which was amazing. I want my office to feel like a gallery of my district and constituents, because after all, it’s your office too.
Following this was a stop in the Rotunda, to listen to the Whitman Middle School Fiddle Club perform. The kids were happy to learn who my boss is - all of them!
After I said hi to the kids, I ran to catch up with a walking group in the Capitol. They walk every Tuesday at 12:30 to promote Black Women’s Wellness. I was thrilled to join them, and I’m looking forward to walking with them again in the following weeks.
Next were two meetings with organizations to talk about the budget. One was healthcare related, the other infrastructure and the economy.
I received a surprise visit from another First Stage mom and her daughter as they celebrated Arts Day in the Capitol.
Somewhere in this time I ate my lunch, which never really seems to happen during lunch time.
The rest of the day was devoted to catching up on constituent correspondence and preparing for the next day, which would be completely different, but just as busy.
Looking Forward
I will be hosting more in district office hours and budget listening sessions next month, so look out for dates and locations for those.
I have started digging into the budget and am excited to hear what the 14th district thinks - email/call my office or attend one of my in-district listening sessions.
Here is the information about the Joint Finance Committee Hearing about the budget in Oak Creek:
Above all, I'm excited to work towards improving the lives and livelihood of the people of my district and Wisconsin.
Forward together,
Rep. Robyn Vining
