Action Needed to Repeal One Week Waiting Period

On March 11th, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law, which allocated an additional $300 per week for unemployed Wisconsinites. In order to access these funds, the Wisconsin Legislature must suspend the one week unemployment insurance (UI) waiting period.

 Forward Wisconsin Budget Meetings

Thank you to those who attended or tuned into the Forward Wisconsin budget meeting on Wednesday on Healthcare! I spoke on several of the mental health provisions of Governor Evers' proposed budget.

As the ranking member of the Assembly Committee on Mental Health, I very much appreciated the opportunity to talk about the Governor’s budget, which includes critical investments in mental healthcare for Wisconsinites.

Mental healthcare is healthcare. The needs we see related to mental health in Wisconsin existed long before the COVID-19 pandemic, and these issues have since been exacerbated by the pandemic.

This is why now more than ever it is essential to make sure Wisconsinites have the support they need, and access to the healthcare they deserve, which includes mental healthcare.

If you missed the meeting, you can watch the recording HERE.

Next Wednesday, March 31st at 7pm, Forward Wisconsin will be holding their final budget meeting on Economy & Infrastructure. Sign up HERE.

 People's Maps Commission Update

The People’s Maps Commission announced today that it has heard from over 1,000 Wisconsinites representing 65 counties and 245 municipalities since their first virtual hearing on October 1st, 2020.

Read the full announcement HERE.

Wednesday, March 24th -  Equal Pay Day

March 24th is recognized as Equal Pay Day to acknowledge the pay gaps that exist between men and women. I co-sponsored a resolution along with my legislative colleagues, and Governor Evers issued a proclamation recognizing March 24th, 2021 as Equal Pay Day in Wisconsin.

On average, Wisconsin women working full-time, year round, earn 81 cents for every dollar earned by men. For Black, Latina, Asian & Pacific Islander, and Native American women, the wage gap is even larger. All people deserve equal pay for equal work.
