Redistricting Public Hearing Update

Every decade, Wisconsin goes through a legislative map drawing process, known as redistricting. Over the last ten years, we’ve all seen the negative impact that partisan gerrymandering has had in Wisconsin. 

Now, Republican legislators are trying to gerrymander our state for another ten years by passing manipulated maps. These maps were drawn in secret, with no thought put towards working across the aisle for the greater good of all Wisconsinites. The current maps are biased and unfair and the proposed maps from Republicans are worse.                                          

The vast majority of Wisconsinites want a nonpartisan process for creating voting districts. These maps continue to ignore the will of the people and create districts that insulate legislators from accountability to their constituents. In the 2018 election, Wisconsin Assembly Democrats received 200,000 more votes than Assembly Republicans, but Democrats made up just 36 of the 99 seats in the Assembly.                                                             

On Thursday, October 28th, a public hearing will be held on the Republicans' proposed maps at the Wisconsin State Capitol, starting at 9am in Room 412 East. 

Come remind the GOP that the will of the people is the law of the land, and the voice of the people is the heart of our state. Voters should choose their elected officials, not the other way around. If you plan on testifying in person, please remember to wear a mask. You can submit your testimony and register your support or opposition with the clerk.
