Shared Revenue Proposal is revealed by Assembly Republicans
Local governments will receive more aid from this proposal.
MADISON - Representative Tom Michalski (R-Brookfield) participated in a press conference this morning unveiling a program to provide state aid to local governments. This was done so with local officials who support the measure.
20% of the sales tax will be set aside for local governments into a fund estimated at around $1.5 billion. This provides at least a 10% increase of shared revenue to every local government in the state.
Over $500 million will be given to public safety, with $300 million to an Innovation Fund for encouraging efficiencies, cost savings, and consolidation. On top of this, when local governments work together for efficient services, the state will offer a financial incentive. Law enforcement, fire, EMS, transportation, and public works will be bolstered with $227 million.
“As a volunteer firefighter, I am proud to support this proposal, especially knowing that a large portion of this will support hard-working first responders.” Rep Michalski said.
Local governments will be receiving triple the funding in existing grants for local governments to upgrade 911 systems, ambulances, equipment, durable medical supplies, and more. The reimbursement funds for officer training will be doubled.
