Senate Shared Revenue and School Choice voted on in Assembly
Local governments will receive more aid from this proposal.
MADISON-AB 245 which concerns shared revenue, was passed last night. This is a bipartisan effort involving the governor's office, the association of towns, association of counties, and the league of municipalities, along with key Democrats and Republican leadership from both the Assembly and Senate. Representative Michalski (R-Brookfield) was proud to be among those who voted for this historic bill, which provides aid to all towns, villages, and cities in Wisconsin.
"After listening to constituents and meeting with local officials to find a consensus, we are making historic investments in local government", Rep. Michalski said, "The legislation focuses on innovation and public safety- directing funds to keep our rural communities, suburbs, and cities meeting the financial challenges of today and the remainder of the decade".
This investment into our local communities provides funds for law enforcement, fire, EMS, transportation, and public works. In addition to this, it encourages cooperation between local governments, providing financial incentives if they work together to create new efficiencies, cost savings, or consolidations
Rep. Michalski spoke further on the matter, "This legislation fulfils two of my three Campaign promises; to provide assistance for public safety and address State funding for local municipalities. Today, we are taking steps to keep our communities safe, ensuring law enforcement services will be properly maintained and not subject to cuts".
Every local government in the state will receive at least a 10% increase in shared revenue, with District 13 receiving substantially more. Elm Grove will be receiving an increase of 220.8%, adding $177,156 for a total of $257.392. The Town of Brookfield is similar, with an increase of 2129%, adding $172,731 to the shared revenue for a total of $254,223. The City of Brookfield will have an increase of 182.6% going from $538,238 to $1,521,213. The City of Wauwatosa will also receive a substantial boost, from $703,942 to $1,847,653 for a boost of 162.5%. Waukesha County is looking at an increase of 510 %, from $636,451 up to 53,882,553.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
