Republican Budget signed by Governor Evers
Budget heavily damaged by vetoes
“I was delighted to hear that the governor passed the Republican state budget. Unfortunately, a lot was cut out by way of partial veto. One of the most concerning issues to me is the removal of tax cuts, hurting Wisconsin as a whole, and making our great state one of worst states for business in the Mid-West”.
“Republicans worked hard to make sure that everyone would see a decrease, with cuts ranging from .04% all the way up to 1.15%, dependent on bracket. This really was a budget made for Wisconsin”. The average person- anyone who makes between $27,630-$304,107 and families making $36,840-$405,550 would have seen a decrease of .9% in their income taxes. This was vetoed by the governor, so most people will not be seeing any decrease in their taxes. “It’s very clear that the governor does not care about the middle class. In his efforts to make sure those who are the top earners in the state do not get any tax cut, he has decided that the middle class should take the fall as well”. In fact, most people will end up paying more in taxes due to the decision of the governor to increase per-pupil funding every year by $325 for the next 400 years. “Increasing funding for public schools in this way might seem to be a good thing on initial inspection. However, looking at the Elmbrook school system alone, with 7,770 students, this is an increase of over $2.53 million each year. And unfortunately, this will be paid via your property taxes”.
Just as damaging is the reinstatement of 188.8 positions related to DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). “I find it ironic as this is shortly after the Supreme Court decided that affirmative action could no longer be used to help process college applications”.
“I know people who have been accepted to big 10 schools such as Purdue University who have been refused admittance by the UW system. I have suspected for a long time that this was due to the DEI practices of the UW system. During my time of the Colleges and Universities committee, this has been even more cemented- as has the bias inside the schools,” commented the Representative, “I believe that people should be looked at based on their academic and personal merits, not their background, sexuality, or skin color. By reinstating these jobs, the governor allows the UW system to ignore the content of character and make judgements based on the color of a person’s skin or beliefs”.
