AB 58 Passed Committee

Assembly Bill 58 has passed the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety in an 8-3 vote.  The only nays were from Democrats.  This bill will install a minimum of a 5-year sentence for felons carrying firearms.  There is an amendment to the bill, which results in the minimum sentence being mandated for only violent felons.  It also raises the felony from a Class F to a Class G.  This means that a felon convicted of this crime will face a minimum of 5 years, up to a maximum of 7.5.  Additionally, there will be a 5-year supervision period after confinement has ended.
