“For eight years, I have been communicating the unsafe, unsustainable reality of GBCI. While 
leadership and decision-making delays have increased the risk, cost and complexity of a solution, 
we are finally in a position to work together and move forward. It is certain that Governor Evers' 
proposal will require modifications to meet certain public safety needs; however, his efforts are a 
promising, positive first step toward the necessary and final closure of GBCI."

“Wisconsin has all the right ingredients to be a nuclear energy leader—from our advanced research and 
development sectors to our robust manufacturing industry, we are well-positioned to lead on this future 
energy source. It’s critical that we begin taking the necessary steps today to set the stage for nuclear 
development and investment so that we can meet the growing energy demands of tomorrow. A siting study 
and summit are meaningful first-steps in moving nuclear energy and related investments in Wisconsin 
forward,” said Rep. Steffen.

“While the officials and entities that make-up our branches of government represent the broad 
array of values and viewpoints that exist across Wisconsin, because of our capital’s location in 
Madison, court decisions involving these parties often represent just one viewpoint, that of the 
Dane County Circuit Court. These decisions often have statewide impacts and every single 
circuit court venue in Wisconsin should have an opportunity to hear these cases—Dane County 
isn’t uniquely qualified to do so,” said Rep. Steffen.

“In recent years it’s become more common to see flags displayed at government buildings in recognition 
of various holidays and causes. Given the hundreds of national and global holidays that have been 
established over the years, it would be a challenge, if not impossible, to recognize each cause equally. A 
standard flag policy eliminates the potential of elevating one cause over another at our government 
buildings,” said Rep. Steffen.

“The 2024 campaign cycle revealed a real outlier in Wisconsin election law. The fact that a candidate who 
has suspended their campaign cannot stop their name from appearing on the ballot, unless they die, is 
nonsensical. Our current law increases voter confusion and fails to recognize real-world circumstances that 
may influence a candidate’s decision to continue their campaign. Most states have a process in place for 
these types of scenarios and it’s in the best interest of our voters to adopt such a pathway in Wisconsin,” 
said Rep. Steffen. 

“Today’s resolution sends a clear message: Wisconsin supports nuclear power and we welcome the 
development and investment in this clean energy source,” said Rep. Steffen. “Energy demands, driven in 
particular by AI data centers, are continuing to soar. Wisconsin needs nuclear to meet this challenge. Our 
state is equipped with the strong research and manufacturing sectors needed to lead on this revolutionary 
technology, and I look forward to working further on this exciting issue.”

“I am honored to join my Republican colleagues in bringing forth this critical election integrity measure. While Wisconsin has successfully implemented voter ID requirements for over a decade, enshrining voter ID into our state constitution will ensure that the security and integrity of our elections is constitutionally protected. A functioning democracy requires full faith in our electoral process and voter ID is a proven method for securing that process,” said Rep. Steffen.

“The weaponization of our judicial system in ultra-liberal cities around the country makes this 
legislation necessary. Today’s decision by a Dane County judge to strike down Act 10 is just the latest 
example of the partisan decisions adjudicated in Dane County. By including a venue re-assignment 
option for either side of a court case that involves partisan parties, we will take a big step forward in re-establishing the public’s faith and confidence in the judicial process."

“When I first learned of Wisconsin’s backlog of untested kits years ago, I knew action needed to
be taken to test these kits and avoid a similar backlog in the future. Since then, I’ve authored
multiple state laws establishing timelines for processing kits and standards for the storage of kits.
These laws have provided justice and resulted in greater community safety. I am encouraged by
the progress we’ve made, but there is still much to do to bring justice for each and every victim,”
said Rep. Steffen.

“Tax-Free Retirement is something that Wisconsinites across the state want, which is why I am proud to be
re-introducing this proposal. Historic inflation has been particularly hard on our fixed-income retirees and
we should be focused on finding ways to make Wisconsin an affordable place to retire,” said Rep. Steffen.
