Taylor calls for Fairness and Justice for ALL Families

(MADISON) Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement on the 7TH Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals decision striking down the Wisconsin’s ban on same-sex marriage.

“Yesterday’s decision is a victory for so many families all over the State. For me it about equality, fairness, and justice and that is what this decision accomplishes. Wisconsin is ripe for this sort of progress and, I support today’s decision.  In today’s unanimous decision, Republican appointee Judge Richard Posner wrote that ‘the discrimination against same-sex couples is irrational, and therefore unconstitutional’ He continued that same-sex marriage bans derived from the hate and salvage discrimination of gays.”

“Certain to be appealed, this decision makes this case likely to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.  There are other cases before the court that contest the same issue. This fall the U.S. Supreme Court will likely decide, once and for all, whether states may ban same-sex marriage.”

“Hopefully, the U.S. Supreme Court will continue to act as these lower courts have.  This is an historic moment in our state and nation’s history and I continue to support equality in all forms.  It is through equality that we are all allowed to grow and thrive; it is what will move our state forward. This is why it is so important for all citizens to be engaged in the upcoming fall elections. We need legislators and an executive who will embrace all people and place fairness above politics.”
