Forward Fridays

Hello!

Here we are in our second week of our E-update! Each week we catch you up on what I've done in the past week as your State Representative.

As always, feel free to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns you have.

Forward together!

A Week In Review

The week started off with a visit to the Capitol from Madison Elementary School (Wauwatosa). I was scheduled in the district that morning, so I greeted the students bright and early Monday morning as they prepared to ride the bus to Madison, and gave them a question to hunt down the answer to upon arriving at the Capitol.

Also at the beginning of the week, I launched the "Words Matter" Pledge. Words can affect people's actions - actions of peace and violence. This is a pledge for everyone, especially elected officials and political figures, to consider that their “Words Matter.”

You can sign the pledge through the Google form here.

I was invited, as well as my colleagues State Senator Kooyenga and State Representative Hutton, to attend the Wauwatosa School Board meeting to honor students' achievements. Congratulations to you all on your hard work!

April 2nd was Equal Pay Day. This date symbolizes how far women must word in order to match what men earned in the previous year. The gap is larger for women of color, shown in this graphic.

We had a full hearing room the other day for the Wisconsin Coalition for Gun Safety, working on bipartisan measures in response to suicide rates (the majority of gun deaths in Wisconsin), school safety, domestic violence attacks and deaths, and protecting children in the homes of responsible gun owners (gun safes and gun safe education methods). Your legislators are listening.

I was able to sit in on the Joint Finance Committee Budget Briefing from the following Departments: Public Instruction, Transportation, and Health Services. I look forward to more public hearings about the budget as we move through this process.

Yesterday, I spent time in Brookfield at the new Fresnius Dialysis Clinic. Thank you for having me at your Open House!

Next was a Budget Forum hosted by Wauwatosa School District. Thanks for advocating for public education in our communities!

Here's some quick facts about what's in the budget for public schools:

REMINDER: The Milwaukee Area JFC Hearing will be in Oak Creek next week. Hope to see you there!

Good luck to anyone competing in the Milwaukee Marathon this weekend! My husband will be there, so the race is on!

Looking Forward

I will be hosting more in-district office hours and budget listening session this month and next, so look out for dates and locations for those.

I take seriously my job to listen to what the 14th district thinks about the The People's Budget - email/call my office with any questions or concerns, or attend one of my in-district listening sessions.

Above all, I'm excited to work towards improving the lives and livelihoods of the people of my district and Wisconsin. Forward together!

Forward together,

Rep. Robyn Vining
