Marklein: UW-Platteville Building Projects Approved in JFC Building Commission Plan
(right click, Save As...) 8/28/2017The JFC added the new Sesquicentennial Hall (Engineering) project and the Boebel Hall addition and renovation to be enumerated as a part of the state’s overall building program for university facilities. The committee approved $55 million for Sesquicentennial Hall and $24 million for the Boebel Hall project. The projects were not originally recommended by the Building Commission in early 2017.

Marklein Defends Rural Schools, Votes for Historic Increases for K-12 Education Funding

Senate Passes Bill to Transfer Ownership of White Mound County Park in Sauk County

Marklein: Cheese is One Step Closer to Becoming Official State Dairy Product

Assembly Bill 73 authored by Representative Todd Novak (Dodgeville) and Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) following a presentation by 4th graders at Mineral Point Elementary, passed the State Senate today. The bill is now before Governor Scott Walker who is expected to sign it into law.

Senator Fitzgerald Farm Center PSA

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald is urging Wisconsin farmers to contact the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Farm Center for assistance as the situation progresses.

Senator Marklein on Nelson Tract Stewardship
(right click, Save As...) 3/28/2017On Monday, March 27, 2017, the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee (JFC) rejected a $346,045 Knowles-Nelson Stewardship grant to fund half the cost of 102.5 acres of land in Dane County known as the Nelson tract. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had previously paid the current owner $207,000 for a conservation easement on the property.

Senator Marklein on JFC Local Property Insurance Fund Changes
(right click, Save As...) 4/22/2015Our motion delayed the elimination of this fund by 2 years so that local units of government will have time to figure out new plans. The current program is operating at a $1.4 million deficit and has been mismanaged, which creates a large liability for the state. Regardless, premiums will go up an average of 45%, so this will give the local units of government the opportunity to shop around for the best price on insurance.
