Statement on Wisconsin employee contracts

Senator Jennifer Shilling and Representative Peter Barca

Legislative Republicans approved Gov. Walker's plan to reduce take-home pay for Wisconsin workers and weaken the state’s middle class today.

“Republicans continue to shortchange Wisconsin workers to make up for the $2.2 billion budget deficit they created," said Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse). "This irresponsible plan forces thousands of workers to take a pay cut while Gov. Walker’s entourage gets a pay bump to travel across the country with him. I refuse to settle for a plan that sells out thousands of hardworking Wisconsin families while Republicans hand out special favors to Gov. Walker’s inner circle as he campaigns for president.”

“It is wrong but not surprising that state employees will still feel the brunt of Republicans’ financial mismanagement while Gov. Walker gives his bodyguards a raise,” Assembly Democratic Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) said. “We should be giving equal attention and priority to the hardworking people of our state – not just Gov. Walker’s security, particularly as he auditions for president on the taxpayer dime.”
