Sen. Shilling statement on budget signing
MADISON - Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) released the following statement after Gov. Walker signed the 2015-17 state budget bill into law:
“Since Republicans took control in 2011, Wisconsin’s budget has ballooned by more than $10 billion, yet funding for our schools is down more than $200 per student with more cuts on the way this year. Investments in our UW schools, our parks, our roads and our communities have been slashed while the special interests who are backing Gov. Walker’s presidential campaign have reaped millions in new tax breaks.
“Families in Wisconsin deserve better than a part-time governor and a rubberstamp legislature. Rather than selling out Wisconsin to advance Gov. Walker’s presidential ambitions, we need to focus on ways to boost family wages and strengthen the middle class. Given the bipartisan opposition to this fiscally irresponsible budget, I hope that we can find common ground moving forward and invest in a brighter future.”
