Weekly Democratic radio address: "Giving Back This Holiday Season"
MADISON – Today, Senator Nikiya Harris Dodd (D-Milwaukee) offered the following weekly Democratic radio address on giving back to the community this holiday season.
"We want you to join us in giving back. Whether you donate food to a food pantry, serve food at a local food bank, or give a gift to a child in need through a Holiday Giving Tree, each of you has a part to play in helping your neighbors this holiday season." - Sen. Nikiya Harris Dodd

A written transcript of the address is below:
“I am State Senator Nikiya Harris Dodd. It comes as no surprise that this year, many working families will not have the luxury of celebrating the holidays, as economic insecurity forces them into crisis mode.
“For many working families, this holiday season includes the added cost of putting warm clothes on their children, maintenance for their car in the winter, and trying to afford their heating bill. As their pocketbook stretches thin, families are forced to choose between putting food on the table and buying a coat for their son or daughter this winter season.
“With the recent cuts on FoodShare at the State Capitol, many families are struggling to buy food over the cold winter months. 40% of the individuals on FoodShare are children and nearly half of these children are under the age of 9. My Democratic colleagues and I are committed to fighting for families, and we believe that the holiday season is about giving back to our community.
“We want you to join us in giving back. Whether you donate food to a food pantry, serve food at a local food bank, or give a gift to a child in need through a Holiday Giving Tree, each of you has a part to play in helping your neighbors this holiday season. I encourage you to reach out and give back.
“From my colleagues and I at the State Capitol: Happy Holidays.”
