Lassa Bill to Help Local Small Business Becomes Law

Madison – A bill to help a Wisconsin Rapids small business expand its special event offerings, authored by State Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) and Representative Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc), was signed by Governor Walker in a ceremony at the State Capitol today.

Senator Lassa introduced the bill on behalf of Blasers, a baseball pitching and hitting facility and golf driving range in Wisconsin Rapids.  Blasers wants to expand to host various special events and tournaments, and needs a change in state law so it can sell beer in the same way bowling allies, billiard halls, golf and tennis facilities, and similar businesses are currently allowed to do.

Owner Shane Blaser told lawmakers the bill “will allow us to have another revenue source outside of our core business and put me on a level playing field with other similar businesses.”

“Small businesses like Blasers are the heart of our communities, and I am pleased that this bill gained bipartisan support and is now law.” Sen. Lassa said.
