Waukesha Delegation Letter to Governor Evers Regarding Chisholm Complaint
Once again, I’ve joined with Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Town of Delafield), Representative Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee), and Scott Allen (R-Waukesha), along with other members of the Waukesha County legislative delegation, to send the letter below to Governor Evers asking him once again to remove John Chisholm as Milwaukee County District Attorney. Our first letter was sent December 6.
See the letter below:
December 22, 2021
Honorable Governor Tony Evers
115 East
State Capitol
Madison, WI 53702
Dear Governor Evers,
It’s been a month since Darrell Brooks Jr., a violent criminal out on bail, allegedly killed six people and injured more than 60 others with his SUV. At the time, you said you could not launch a formal investigation to determine if Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm should be removed from office because no taxpayer from Milwaukee County had filed a complaint.
Now you have a complaint. Will you finally act?
District Attorney Chisholm announced that he would conduct his own internal investigation, and you told the press your office was helping with that effort. Will you now conduct a fully independent investigation of the events leading up to the Waukesha Christmas parade massacre?
During his appearance before the Milwaukee County board, District Attorney Chisholm said that his office’s failure to hold Brooks in custody on higher bail was the result of a low level, overworked assistant district attorney making a mistake.
He also said the assistant district attorney did not have access to the risk assessment that had been completed for Brooks so she simply doubled the $500 bail Brooks posted after his last violent offense.
District Attorney Chisholm’s explanation raises more questions than it answers about the process his office follows for making bail requests. If you are serious about seeking justice for the victims, you must conclude what every reasonable Wisconsinite already knows. DA Chisholm has failed the public and is derelict in his duty in keeping people safe using the power of his office. John Chisholm has failed to keep innocent people safe, and he must be removed immediately.
We look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Senate President Chris Kapenga
