Welcome to my e-update!

My name is Brad Pfaff, and I am proud to represent you as State Senator for the 32nd District in the Wisconsin State Senate.

Our district includes La Crosse, Vernon, Crawford, and southern Monroe County.

In January, I took an oath at the State Capitol and made a promise to work hard for the people of Western Wisconsin. I fully intend to keep my promise and show up every day for the 32nd District.

This newsletter helps me keep in touch with all of you and provides updates on what's happening around the district and in the State Capitol.

Around the District

GOOD WORKS: Local farmers recognized for excellence in land and water conservation

Our area’s landowners and farmers understand the importance of conservation. I was proud to present a citation to Carolyn and Kevin Parr of rural Viroqua for being recognized on Conservation Observance Day by the Wisconsin Land + Water Conservation Association.

Festival season is in full swing

The Dog Days of summer promise sultry weather, lake days with the family, and of course, local community festivals. It was great to meet so many of you at La Crosse IrishFest, The Crawford County Fair, Holmen Kornfest, and many other events.

Let's not forget that Vernon County Fair is right around the corner!

A path forward for our farmers

COVID-19 had a significant impact on our supply chains, creating backlogs in processing and increased costs to farmers.

Last month, Governor Evers and I took a trip to Peters Family Farms to unveil a $50 million investment directly to Wisconsin farmers—this is a HUGE win for our rural economy.

More work needs to be done: I will continue to champion common-sense legislation like the Farmland Preservation Program, new market developments, and other efforts that are important to our Ag sector.

Capitol Update

Bills to Watch

Less for Rx Bill Package

High prescription drug costs hurt Wisconsin families. That’s why I’m proud to be the lead author on a bill to create the first-ever Office of Drug Affordability here in Wisconsin.

Earlier this year, I worked to pass a bipartisan bill that passes pharmacy savings onto customers, which Governor Evers signed. We need to ensure that Wisconsinites get the best Rx drug prices possible. Nobody should break the bank for being sick.

The CLEAR Act

In April, I cosponsored the CLEAR Act, which will address PFAS contamination in the Town of Campbell and across the state.

The CLEAR Act is an integral part of the solution to manage the health impacts of dangerous chemicals in our water supply, and I am working hard to get it passed in the Senate.

Buy American Bill Package

I introduced the “Buy American” bill package in the Wisconsin State Senate to promote and grow Wisconsin jobs. Prioritizing the purchase of products made in our country and our state helps create jobs to grow Wisconsin’s middle class, which is crucial to our economic recovery.

Resources for Veterans

Our service members deserve our support both while they're active and when they retire. Here are a few resources available through the U.S. and Wisconsin Departments of Veterans Affairs for those who may need them:

Contacts from the Wisconsin DVA:

  • Veterans Crisis Line - The Veterans Crisis Line is a toll-free, confidential resource that connects veterans and their families to mental health resources. Connect with the Crisis Line
  • County Veterans Service Officers - Your local Tribal and County Veterans Service Officers can help determine the benefits and services for which you are eligible. Find your TVSO/CVSO

Resources available right now (information provided from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs):

  • Vet Centers - Discuss how you feel with other Veterans in these community-based counseling centers. 70% of Vet Center staff are Veterans. Call 1-877-927-8387 or find one near you.
  • VA Mental Health Services Guide - This guide will help you sign up and access mental health services.

COVID-19 Update

Pfizer Vaccine Fully Approved by FDA

The FDA recently granted the Pfizer vaccine full approval after being authorized for emergency use. The vaccine already met FDA’s rigorous scientific standards, but now the public can feel fully confident that it is entirely safe and effective.

This is excellent news, and I hope it encourages more folks to go out and get their shots.

Local Guidelines

I encourage everyone to continue observing municipal safety guidelines for COVID-19. Breakthrough cases of the Delta Variant are increasing, and we want to make sure our friends and neighbors are protected.

If you’re not sure what your local health officials are advising, you can call your county health department or visit their website.
