Sen. Smith, Rep. Emerson Resolution Passes State Legislature
Celebrating UW-Eau Claire Championship Volleyball Team

MADISON – On January 25th, Senate Joint Resolution 98 authored by Sen. Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) and Rep. Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) passed the Wisconsin State Legislature honoring the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Women’s Volleyball team. The Blugolds made school history winning the NCAA Division III National Championship on November 20, 2021.

Governor Tony Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers met with players to congratulate them on the team’s championship victory. Following this visit, the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly recognized the UW-Eau Claire Volleyball team and passed Senate Joint Resolution 98 during their respective floor sessions.

“It was a privilege to welcome the NCAA Division III Volleyball National Champions to the State Capitol on Tuesday,” said Sen. Smith. “This team represented Eau Claire–and the entire state of Wisconsin–on the national stage with exceptional honor. I know they will accomplish so much more on and off the volleyball court to continue making our community proud.”

“These women truly exemplify what it means to be a Blugold and a Wisconsinite,” added Rep. Emerson. “They have grit, drive, passion, and now a National Championship. I was proud to welcome them to the State Capitol on Tuesday and celebrate their accomplishment on the Assembly floor.”
