Sen. Smith’s Statement on Gov. Evers’ 2022 State of the State Address

MADISON – Governor Tony Evers delivered the 2022 State of the State Address this evening. Senator Jeff Smith (D – Brunswick) released the following statement in response to the address:

“From the People’s Budget during his first year in office to this evening’s State of the State Address, it is clear Governor Evers always puts Wisconsinites first. For this very reason, Wisconsin is in the strong position we find ourselves in today.

“Wisconsin has an all-time low unemployment rate and record-high surplus. Rural communities are connecting to high-speed internet and historic infrastructure projects are getting finished. These achievements could not have been made without Governor Evers’ steadfast leadership, especially during some of the most trying times in our state’s history.

“Wisconsinites have reason to celebrate our economic success and pandemic recovery efforts—we’ve come a long way, but there’s still more we can do. I appreciate hearing the governor’s plans to address rising costs for Wisconsin families, reduce barriers to employment and invest in our schools.

“We’ve made it to this point because Governor Evers has listened to and trusted Wisconsinites. This is only the beginning. I know that, together, we can and will do more to move Wisconsin forward.”
