Sen. Jeff Smith Honors Wisconsin Farmers on National Ag Day

MADISON – President Joe Biden proclaimed March 23rd as National Ag Day to honor the valued contributions of farmers and members of the agricultural industry. Senator Jeff Smith (D – Brunswick) shared the following statement to recognize this important day:

“National Ag Day marks a special opportunity for us, as Wisconsinites, to recognize the essential role of our farmers and agricultural workers. They’ve persevered through some of the toughest times in our state’s history – this past year wasn’t any different. Wisconsin farmers and agricultural workers continued working tirelessly to produce and deliver goods for feeding families in Wisconsin and far beyond our state’s border.

“Wisconsin has a long and storied agricultural history. As America’s Dairyland, it’s important to do what we can to ensure we maintain this reputation. We owe it to our farmers to not only share our thanks today, but support them for decades to come.”

Senator Smith renews his support for Governor Tony Evers’ agricultural budget investments on National Ag Day. The Governor’s budget includes a $43 million investment for one of Wisconsin’s biggest industries. He calls on the Republican-led Joint Committee on Finance to approve these critical budget initiatives. These investment will go a long way to support the agricultural industry in a number of key areas, which include: 1) Expanding Local and International Market Opportunities; 2) Applying a Three-Pronged Plan to Bolster Local Meat Processing; 3) Promoting Agricultural Innovation & Farmer-Led Conservation; 4) Supporting Farmers’ Mental Health & Wellbeing.
