Sen. Smith's Statement Regarding Former DATCP Secretary Pfaff

MADISON – Today, Republicans, by a party-line vote, rejected the nomination of Brad Pfaff as Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protections.

In response to the Republican’s decision, Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) released the following statement:

“Republicans played politics with the leader of our top industry at the risk of losing more family farms. Farmers need consistency and leadership in this difficult time. Republicans on the Agriculture, Revenue and Financial Institutions Committee should be ashamed of flip-flopping on Pfaff.

“Brad Pfaff is a household name for Wisconsin agriculture. Pfaff’s broad support from nearly all of Wisconsin’s agriculture advocacy groups demonstrated just how wrong it was for Republicans to reject his nomination.”
