Project Labor Agreements

Hi folks, this is State Senator Jeff Smith Checking in for the Chippewa Valley.  

My Democratic colleagues and I introduced the Build a Stronger Wisconsin package - a set of bills designed to strengthen our middle class, support good union jobs and give every Wisconsinite a fair shot at success.

This package would restore prevailing wage, so workers on publicly funded projects would be guaranteed fair pay for a fair day’s work. It would also reinstate Project Labor Agreements, a proven tool to keep projects on time, on budget and safe.

There is also a proposal here that would crack down on worker misclassification. This would make sure no employer could cheat workers out of wages, benefits or protections. 

Lastly, my colleagues and I proposed repealing so-called “Right to Work,” which has only driven down wages and weakened the safety of Wisconsin workers.

The Build a Stronger Wisconsin package has the opportunity to strengthen entire industries, our economy and our communities. 

I’m honored to be a part of this package as a coauthor and I am hopeful the majority party will take this seriously and move forward with these ideas. The ball is squarely in their court now to do what’s right for Wisconsin workers.
