Hi, friends. This is State Senator Jeff Smith. 

I want to take a moment to talk about something that should matter to all of us — transparency and your voice in the state budget process. 

Every two years, your state government crafts a budget that impacts everything from your local schools to our roads and healthcare. But here’s the thing: a budget written behind closed doors doesn’t serve the people. That’s why I strongly support budget listening sessions, because good government starts with listening. 

These sessions give you the chance to tell us what matters most to your family and your community. Whether it’s investing in public education, clean water or supporting small businesses, your voice should guide our decisions — not just political insiders or lobbyists. 

Let’s hold our government accountable. Let’s demand openness. Because democracy only works when the people are heard.
