Welcome to The Wimberger Wire

I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to read through my newsletter. Each week, I'll include information to keep you up to date with what's happening in Madison and the 30th Senate District.

Tax Cut 2021
UWGB Cofrin Library

The Joint Finance Committee voted in favor of my budget motion for funding the replacement of the aging Cofrin Library at the UW- Green Bay Campus. The new building will be four-to-five stories and include a “new technology hub,” including Cofrin Library programs. Read the full article here.

Southern Bridge De Pere

The Joint Finance Committee voted in favor of my budget motion to help secure funding for the Southern Bridge in De Pere. This will help the project get done more quickly to ease traffic congestion in the vicinity of the existing Fox River bridges and reduce travel time by improving east-west connectivity. 2021 Senate Scholar

I had the pleasure of showing Senate Scholar, Aiden Callen a Senior at Preble High School, around the Capitol. Aiden shadowed me for the day, including being able to sit on the floor for Senate Session. I am grateful to be able to provide such an experience to the youth in my district.

What Senator Wimberger Has Been Up To

I was thankful to tour the wonderful school in De Pere, Syble Hopp. Educational programming is provided at Syble Hopp School to meet the needs of children with disabilities between the ages of three to a student's twenty-first birthday residing in Brown County in the seven districts served. Thank you to Kim Pahlow and principal Abbie Nizzia for giving me a tour of the school.

I was able to volunteer at the Brown County Breakfast on the farm hosted by the Collins Family. It was great to see so many families come out and enjoy the breakfast.

I testified along with Representative Steffen on SB 406 that would relocate the coal piles from downtown Green Bay's riverfront. This bill requires the governor to allocate $5,000,000 of the funds accepted under the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. These grants will go to Brown County and the city of Green Bay for the purposes of relocating coal piles currently located near the mouth of the Fox River in Green Bay and revitalizing the neighborhood from which the coal piles are to be relocated.

DOT UPDATE

I-41 Bridges Polymer Overlays (2020 carryover project)

Location/limits: I-41 bridges in the Green Bay area (50 I-41 bridges/overpasses/ramps and one bridge at US 141 over I-43). Eight I-41 bridges in Oshkosh were completed in 2020.

Schedule: July 2020 through July 2021

Cost: $3.4 million

Description of work: 2021 work includes placing a thin polymer overlay on numerous I-41 bridges in the Green Bay area. Many bridges were recently constructed as part of the I-41 Expansion Project. The polymer overlays protect and prolong the life of the bridge deck. This minimizes future maintenance costs and increases the time before a more costly deck rehabilitation project is required.

June 14 to June 20: Work includes polymer overlay, joint sealing, and permanent pavement markings on northbound I-41 from Cormier Road to Mason St., southbound I-41 from Mason St. to Cormier Road, southbound I-41 on-ramp from Mason St., southbound I-41 on-ramp from Lombardi Ave., northbound I-41 off-ramp to Lombardi Ave., and northbound I-41 off-ramp to Mason Street. Work will continue into the weekend.

June 21 to June 27: Work includes polymer overlay, joint sealing, and permanent pavement markings on northbound and southbound I-41 from Oneida St. to Mason St., northbound and southbound I-41 on-ramp from westbound and eastbound STH 172, northbound I-41 off-ramp to Oneida St., southbound I-41 on-ramp to Oneida St., northbound I-41 on-ramp to Lombardi, northbound I-41 off-ramp to Mason Street. Work will continue into the weekend.

Traffic Impacts: I-41 will remain open to traffic with various single and duel-lane closures at bridge location. A reduction in speed limit in the work zones will take place in the work zones.
