Senator Wall’s and Representative Spaude’s Request for Green Bay Public Market Included in State Budget Proposal

Madison, WI – Yesterday, Senator Jamie Wall (D-Green Bay) and Representative Ryan Spaude (D-Ashwaubenon) were present at the Wisconsin State Capitol as Governor Tony Evers delivered his budget address.

Wall and Spaude requested the state provide $3 million for the construction and development of the Green Bay Public Market, which the governor included in his budget proposal.

“I’m always focused on making the Green Bay area an even better place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Senator Wall. “The Green Bay Public Market will create jobs and spur additional development for our community.”

Brian Johnson, President & CEO of On Broadway, Inc., was pleased with the announcement saying, “The governor’s proposed investment in the Public Market will help us move forward with construction. I appreciate Sen. Wall’s and Rep. Spaude’s work on our behalf. We’ve said from the beginning it’s a public market with a public purpose. State investment in other public markets including Milwaukee and Madison have sparked additional community and economic development, and we look forward to leveraging this investment to address inequities and create similar opportunities in our community.”

“The Public Market will be a catalyst for continued development in the Broadway district,” said Representative Spaude. “I look forward to seeing its effect on downtown and the area as a whole.”

The Green Bay Public Market is projected to have an economic impact of $65 million and generate over $100 million in nearby development. The proposed $3 million will help complete financing for the project. On Broadway, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and will own and operate the Green Bay Public Market.
