Bipartisan Brown County Legislators Introduce Budget Motion for Critical Courts Funding

Green Bay, Wis. — On Tuesday, May 27th, bipartisan state lawmakers from Brown County
introduced a budget motion to encourage critical investment in the county circuit court. After the
announcement, Senator Jamie Wall (D-Green Bay) and Rep. Ryan Spaude (D-Ashwaubenon),
released the following statement:

Sen. Jamie Wall: “There’s a backlog of thousands of criminal cases in Brown County. That costs
our property taxpayers money, delays justice for defendants and victims, and makes us less
safe. We’re glad to back up our public safety professionals with this motion.”

Rep. Ryan Spaude:
“As a former prosecutor in Brown County, I am very aware of the challenges facing our criminal
justice system. Senator Wall and I were able to emphasize the urgency of the situation to
Governor Evers as he was crafting his executive budget, and I commend him for including those
funds. I proudly support this budget motion to ensure those dollars make it over the finish line.
We need these investments to ensure that our justice system is treating folks fairly and
protecting our community.”
