Welcome to my E-Update!

I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to read through my newsletter. Each week, I'll include information to keep you up to date with what's happening in Madison and the 30th Senate District.

Marinette Marine

Yesterday, Marinette Marine received a contract from the Navy for another guided missile frigate. The Marinette shipbuilder could ultimately build 10 of the frigates if the Navy exercises all of its options on the original contract, which is worth up to $5.6 billion and would continue construction for 15 years. This is a great opportunity for Marinette and the 30th Senate District. Click here for the full article.

Ride Along: Brown County

Last week, the Brown County Sheriff's office took me for a ride along to observe what officers do on a day to day basis. We are so fortunate to have them protecting us everyday here in Brown County.

Tours In District

This month, I was thankful to sit down with Jim and Lindsey who own Forgotten Fire Winery in Marinette and discuss upcoming plans to expand.

This month, ChemDesign gave me the opportunity to tour their fantastic facility. ChemDesign provides fine and specialty chemical manufacturing services. The plan for the future is to grow organically in the toll manufacturing arena while reviewing strategic acquisition opportunities.

This month, BPM had me at their facility to discuss the importance of the industry. BPM is a leading manufacturer of specialty papers and converted materials for the packaging, food service and confectionery industries. BPM provides full-service toll printing and in-house capabilities to add coating to flexible packaging products.

FUN FACT: BPM in Peshtigo creates all the labels for Dum-Dums lollipops!

I-43 Bridge Rehabilitation – Green Bay

Location/limits: Various bridges, ramps and overpasses on I-43 between WIS 172 and the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay

Length: 10.03 miles

Cost: $6.3 million

Schedule: July 2020 to October 2021

Description of work: This project includes shoulder improvements, bridge deck milling with concrete overlays, bridge painting, culvert and bridge wingwall repairs and pavement markings.

Traffic impacts: Long-term I-43 lane closures will continue through the end of May 2021. The interstate is down to one lane open at various locations in the project work zone. Motorists could encounter delays/backups on I-43 during peak travel times. Please consider WIS 172 and I-41 as an alternate route. Current ramp closures include:

  • Northbound I-43 to northbound WIS 57 ramp will be closed on Monday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 25.
  • Northbound WIS 57 to northbound I-43 ramp CLOSED until May 27, 2021.
  • Irwin Avenue (city of Green Bay) located near I-43 will have a northbound lane/shoulder closure in-place starting Friday, May 7 and ending May 21, 2021. Temporary signals will provide two-directional traffic (including bike/pedestrians) through this area. This traffic pattern is expected to last approximately two weeks.

I-41 Bridges Polymer Overlays (2020 carryover project)

Location/limits: I-41 bridges in the Green Bay area (50 I-41 bridges/overpasses/ramps and one bridge at US 141 over I-43). Eight I-41 bridges in Oshkosh were completed in 2020.

Schedule: July 2020 through July 2021

Cost: $3.4 million

Description of work: 2021 work includes placing a thin polymer overlay on numerous I-41 bridges in the Green Bay area. Many bridges were recently constructed as part of the I-41 Expansion Project. The polymer overlays protect and prolong the life of the bridge deck. This minimizes future maintenance costs and increases the time before a more costly deck rehabilitation project is required.

Traffic Impacts: I-41 will remain open to traffic with various single and duel-lane closures at bridge location. A reduction in speed limit in the work zones will take place in the work zones.
